Have you pushed your future off to the undesignated date of SOMEDAY?

"When we're growing up there are all sorts of people telling us what to do when really what we need is space to work out who to be."  - Ellen Page

"When I heard [about Sarah’s program] 6 months ago my first thought was "maybe this could help" and my second was "what if it costs a lot" but now 6 months later I am so happy that I invested in myself. If you feel like you have things going on in your life but no outlet to figure it out - call Sarah. If you feel like your life could be more fun/rewarding/fulfilling/joyful than it is today - call Sarah. If you feel like you may be alone with the battles in your head - you are not- and you will get full support not only from Sarah as a personal coach but from the community of women in the group. I highly recommend her program and am so glad I said YES!"

"Sarah's coaching was a complete eye opener for me to break through the barriers that have been holding me back in my business. Sarah offers a warm, gentle, and safe space for you to grow and explore. Her energy is magnetic and creates this amazing vibe to feed off of throughout the program. Sarah's coaching was completely invaluable to me and surpassed any expectations I had going into the experience. If you're someone on the brink of change who needs a little help and feels like even a piece of you is drawn to coaching, do it! You will not regret developing, defining, and stepping into your someday with Sarah!"

You aren't stuck. You're simply scared.

Do you ever find yourself in the middle of a creative project and out of nowhere you lose interest? Have you ever been on the brink of change and suddenly can't remember why you wanted to make a shift in the first place? Can you think of a time when you faced a personal or professional challenge and couldn't come up with one good solution to a fairly straightforward problem?

Are you stuck on something right now?

I've got (good) news for you! You likely aren't/weren't stuck, but rather just scared. See our mind is more concerned with keeping us safe than keeping us moving. It wants easy, automatic, and predictable. We should appreciate we have automatic responses that keep us alive. And also, we have to work hard to notice when we aren't in real danger and pushing past discomfort is actually in our best interest.

After getting super stuck (read super scared) on a professional project recently, I got myself back in motion in no time using this simple process. Now it is your turn!

The Stuck to Stoked Process

Step 1: Notice when your "I'm stuck" pattern is present.

Step 2: Step away from the doing and turn your outward gaze inward by taking a few deep breaths.

Step 3: Name the emotion under your pattern for what it really is (most of the time it is FEAR!).

Step 4: Get curious (and compassionate) and ask yourself, “What are you so afraid of?”. Let the answers gently surface.

Step 5: Acknowledge and thank that part of you that is feeling scared for speaking up.

Step 6: Connect to your WHY by asking the question, “Now what are you missing out on / giving up if you don’t get unstuck and go for it?”. Allow the answers to come. Continue asking “What else?” until you get to your biggest/truest motivator for achieving your goal.

Step 7: Shake on it. Make an agreement with yourself that you are pursing this thing no matter what.

Step 8: Take the next step forward (and then the next and the next…). Repeat this process as necessary to keep yourself moving along your journey.

Your biggest obstacle to creating your best life and doing your best work is...YOU. The next time you notice your pattern is taking you out of the game, keep this sequence handy and get yourself going again.

An invitation from Rumi to welcome in all our emotions. They are gifts to help us grow.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.

meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

~ Jellaludin Rumi, translation by Coleman Barks

Finding Calm in a Career Change

Two years ago I decided to listen to the gentle, internal whisper that said "There is another desk for you to sit behind Sarah".

Thanks to The Fullest for allowing me to share my perspective and favorite resources for finding calm in a career change. Surprise, surprise it includes fewer spreadsheets and more trust.

Let this be your permission slip to say yes to those tiny tugs trying to guide you toward the work you were made for.

The One Meeting You Can't Afford to Miss

Let's face it...if it isn't on the calendar, it doesn't exist.

We are great at keeping track of project deadlines, birthdays, doctors appointments, and social engagements. We are terrible at keeping track of ourselves.

Here is a simple practice that ensures YOU end up on your daily agenda and don't get left behind.

The Ulitmate Check-In Meeting

Put a reminder in your calendar at least 1X per day for 5 minutes. If you are a real go-getter I recommend 3X. When your alarm goes off, run through the following process (out-loud, silently, or write it out):

1. Focus your attention on the center of your mind. Ask your mind (as if it is a distinct part of your Self) What’s going on? How are you feeling? What do you need right now? Get still and allow this part of you to “speak”. When you have an answer to what your mind needs right now either 1) address it in the moment or 2) make an appointment to address it in the near future.

2. Focus your attention on your body. Locate the tips of your toes and the top of your head to bring your awareness away from your mind and into your whole body. Ask your body (as if it is a distinct part of your Self) What’s going on? How are you feeling? What do you need right now? Get still and allow this part of you to “speak”. When you have an answer to what your body needs right now either 1) address it in the moment or 2) make an appointment to address it in the near future.

3. Tell your mind and body they can rest now. Then allow your attention to move to the center of your heart. Placing your hands over your heart space helps with connecting to this more subtle aspect of your Self. This piece often speaks in whispers, so take a few deep breaths, give it some space, and listen carefully. When you have an answer to what your heart needs right now either 1) address it in the moment or 2) make an appointment to address it in the near future.

4. Lastly, take a moment to thank all the pieces of you for speaking up. 50% of the power of this practice is showing up consistently and truly listening. This is new and a big step for most of us, so you get lots of credit for this piece. The next 50% shows up when you truly commit to giving yourself what you need as expressed by your entire Self. This builds self-trust which is a muscle we could all stand to strengthen.

When you take care of yourself (all the pieces of you), those you work with, live with, and love get a better version of you showing up next to them to meet both the challenges and celebrations life brings. Your actions are also inherently giving those around you permission to take good care of themselves too - and that is what great leadership looks like in my book.
